Wynton Marsalis said, Ben Wolfe swings with authority. Downbeat Magazine says, He hews to the aesthetic of group interplay and the rhythms of bebop, and displays a well- honed sense of sonic narrative. Early on in Wolfe s career, he formed a duo with Harry Connick Jr. and went on to record over a dozen albums and soundtracks. He then joined the Wynton Marsalis Septet and remained there until joining Diana Krall s touring band. For his SmallsLIVE release, Wolfe is joined by tenor saxophonist Marcus Strickland and Lincoln Center bandmate Ryan Kisor on trumpet. In the rhythm section is Luis Perdomo on piano and Gregory Hutchinson on drums. The set is all originals and the delight of the crowd is clearly heard and for obvious reasons.
